Ok, I think this one might be a real winner. We all know that mainstream news is usually depressing, unproductive, and focused on what’s going wrong, rather than what’s going right. There are some oasis (oasises? oases?) of enlightened news in magazines like Yes and Ode, but nothing daily. What about a team of Zaadz folks creating and maintaining a news page of good news? It could have both original articles, written by Zaadz reporters as well as links to articles on other sites. It could highlight Zaads members and what they are doing, as well as cover general world news that’s positive. One of my heroes, Francis Moore Lappé, likens a healthy media diet to a healthy food diet. It’s important to get good, inspiring, thoughtful, hearty media in your life every day so that you don’t get mentally sick, just like you would get physically sick if you ate mostly junk food. I was originally thinking of starting a Good News pod, but I think this kind of thing should be a unique part of the website. Don’t you agree? Peace, Love, and Bicycles,

totally couldn't agree more!… I think, if I may make one critique… perhaps we should give news on what is “really” going on in the world… I don't think it's so bad to report on bad news, as long as it's the truth… our American media… or whatever country you live in… generally is run by money… and money is controlled by government… I believe it was Martin Luther King who said that “when there are unjust laws, the only place for a just man is in jail”… so I suppose it would be great to have an actual website that reports on what is really going on in society and politics… instead of the war and destruction we see so often (makes me sick even looking at it)… I would like to think that I am willing to stand up for what I believe in… (that makes me an American, right?)… so who else is with me!!!!!!!! *screams crazily and runs off into the distance!!!!*…. lol… just promise me you won't go signing me up for the military… hehehehehehehe…. blessings, Nic |

Real news for sure, but with a light at the end of the tunnel and with a focus on the future and solutions, rather than the past and problems. Know what I mean? |

What if it were a kind of wiki news, where anyone could post the good news from wherever they find it? |

That site is fantastic! How cool. I actually recently decided to call my medical website blog “good news,” because I want to describe success stories about deep healing that have occured through the use of natural medicine. (It’s not up yet.) |

Yeah, that Positive News has been an inspiration for me as well. I happen upon their newsletter/paper once or twice a year and I savor it for months! If we could do something like that on a daily basis, I think the whole world might start paying attention, and being more aware of how much negativity in the news breeds negativity in the world. |

I think that’s a very real possibility, with a bit of editorial oversight so that grumpy folks don’t overwhelm it, like happens on sites like Indymedia. |

I’m happy to start a pod for good news, or you are more than welcome to do so as well. But I was hoping to make it more of a unique and integral part of the Zaadz website. Maybe starting a pod is the first step to that? Or maybe the powers that be are already working on a news section? -Turtle |

Hi Turtle, I think the best would be to start a pod first, show our technical and thinking guy behind the scene that the idea is good and than in the future ask them to make a newz section on zaadz itself. What do you think? If yous till have a pod left, please start it and we will ask everybody we know to spread the news of the birth of Newz. First of all, lets structure the news in intelligent categories first…if you don’t do this from the beginning on, people will start writing news everywhere without any structuring. If you need some help, let me know. Diana |

Having a shared idea of what we want might be useful. Do we want categories? If so, can a blog accomodate that? What might the categories be? I really can’t think of any that aren’t arbitrary and limiting, but maybe others can? Should we make sure to not take copywritten material at all and just link to articles? Or could we paraphrase articles with a link at the end? Do we want anyone and everyone to be able to post articles, or do we want a few editors to be in charge? I like the format of Treehugger, which is essentially a list of articles (bloglike) with a few official editors/writers who pick up stories from a variety of places and write short sysnopsis of the news along with a photo or picture. It’s very attractive and easy to read. What do you think? -Turtle |

For reference and for your enjoyment as well, I thought you all might like to see the Living Democracy Project’s American News Service. It was a wonderful syndicated news service that featured stories about real people doing good things for their communities and the planet. Like API, but only great news. Unfortunately, it’s no longer being produced, but the stories are so inspiring, and still very relevent. This was created partially by Francis Moore Lappé, the author of Diet for a Small Planet, who is a hero of mine. Peace, Love, and Bicycles,

I believe that this one is a winner. I was thinking about this idea just two days ago which signals to me it's existing in the collective creative abyss ready for a trial in reality. The easier you make it the better. Simplification seems to be a useful lesson to be learned from Google's success. There is a CEO support group called Vistage (formerly TEC) that I think Brian should join. They send out a very well formatted call for assitance and enewsletter. Maybe this might be a good one to check out as a base starting point. I know everyone has aggragators and news readers. Maybe some of this could be done through people's aggragating systems. I know that there is so much happening in Law, I could fill a column for you with tidbits for a while to get you all up to speed on what's newsworthy about the changes in the law. Thought I should post this here somewhere… The Integral Institute has a new news website Holons News! It has articles catagorized by levels and quadrants, and there’s even an article about Zaadz in the lower left quadrant (the culture quadrant). Though I gotta say that the top listing for the Turquoise items seems pretty non-Turqoise to me. (I thought Turqoise was all about integral solutions, not complaining…:-) Peace, Love, and Bicycles,

Yeah, isn't that a cool site? We got a couple of apps through them… I understand what you're saying about the turquoise part, too. I felt similarly. |
