You want Guantánamo closed? This is your chance to join a movement of people who feel the same way.

People who think that the US detention centre at Guantánamo is a symbol of injustice and abuse and it should be closed.

It is nearly six years since the first detainees were transferred to Guantánamo. Hundreds are still there: without charge, and with little hope of obtaining a fair trial.

Do something about it: Join this group and the Close Guantánamo flotilla (www.amnesty.org/guantanamoflotilla) and then invite your friends to do the same.

When you join the Flotilla , you create your own virtual personality. You choose your outfit, accessories, and hair, pick your mode of transport to Guantánamo and the message that better suits your feelings about the detention facility. Your message will be displayed with your character alongside your name and country.

You can invite your friends, colleagues and relatives to join the Flotilla and travel with you to confront injustice. It is fairly easy and you can invite up to 22 people at a time.

One of the more interesting aspects of the Flotilla is that you can use the search tool to see whether your friends have already joined. You can search by simply entering their name or email in the search field. This allows users to check out their friend’s virtual personality: how they have designed their outfits, their message and also their method of travel.

Amnesty International is asking internet users worldwide to spread the word about this campaign, in order to create an online social community that is united in calling for the closure of Guantánamo. AI has created flotilla banners that can be posted on websites or blogs. HTML banners are available in various sizes and languages, including in English, Spanish, French, German and Arabic. Other sizes and languages are available upon request.
